Siachen: Rescue Operation Enters 24th Day In Gayari

Gayari: Work on spillway is underway to discharge water that resulted due to melting of glacier in Siachen Gayari sector to rescue the army officials buried under the ice avalanche.

According to the details, the water level is on the rise that has spread over to an area of one kilometer.

The search and rescue operation for over a 100 soldiers buried at Gayari continued for the 23rd day. ISPR reported that the Ground Penetrating Rader (GPR) teams took readings at 26 different points and identified eight sites for further search on Saturday.

Drilling at 8 different places is going on to rescue the intrepid soldiers of Pak Army who were buried by a massive glacier on the 7th of this month.

So far 1.9 million ton ice has been removed from eight identified these points.

According to Pakistan Meteorological Department, snowfall is expected at the Gayari Sector in the next three to four days which will hamper rescue operation.

Meanwhile, search and rescue operation at Gayari Sector contunues round the clock and one kilometer long lake has come on surface due to melting of ice.

ISPR’s Update On Avalanche Clearance At Gayari Sector, Siachen

Search and rescue operation at Gayari Sector is being carried out round the clock. Ground Penetrating Rader (GPR) team took readings at 26 different points and indentified eight sites for further probe.
Work on all indentified sites is in progress. A 300 feet long course has been hauled over the avalanche for restoration of the channel by employing dozers.

ISPR Update – Gayari Sector Avalanche Clearance

Search and rescue operation at Gayari Sector is being carried out round the clock. Plant equipment is suffering breakdown due to extremely weather conditions.
Work on all indentified sites is in progress. Ground penetrating Rader Team took readings at 24 different points and indentified four of these for further probe. Army Survey Group of Engineers team has completed the topo survey of the avalanche including water channel.

ISPR’s Latest Update On Gayari Sector, Siachen (April 23, 2012)

Search and rescue operation at Gayari is being carried out round the clock. Cold weather is resulting into frequent breakdown of plant equipment. However, all out efforts are being under taken to keep maximum plant equipment functional.

The platforms constructed on all sites have been consolidated. However, excavation work is being focused on expansion of the sites.
Ground penetrating Rader Teams have indentified two more points for further probe. Since 7th April 2012, when avalanche hit Battalion Headquarters at Gayari, a total of 1.73 million cubic feet area have been excavated.
Norwegian team after rendering necessary assistance have arrived in Islamabad and will be leaving for their country tomorrow.

ISPR’s Update On Gayari Sector, Siachen (April 21, 2012)

The weather has once again turned very cold due to overcast conditions and chilling winds. The bad weather posing difficulties in rescue activities but could not affect the pace of work at site.
The excavation work is being expanded with help of men and material. A probing search was carried out at three spots. Some life jackets, pieces of Igloo and medicines have been found at the site. These items were found 600 Meters from the original location.The items recovered showed the magnitude of destruction and nature of the avalanche. The entire process of initiation/striking down of avalanche took less than five seconds as intimated by WAPDA Team Hydrological experts.
